I feel it necessary to say that there’s a definite trend in today’s internet browsing and the style of website that caters to that evolved style of web-surfing. That trend is what folks are referring to “Web 2.0”. It’s the new connectivity and javascript-driven interfaces that allow us access to information unlike what we were used to five years ago.

This interface is driven by web search engines (namely google) and social media engines like Myspace and Facebook. People accessing the web are in one of two categories:

• They’re random visitors — in which case the attention span is about 3 seconds. You’d better have your relevant information immediately available or you’ll be passed by with hardly a glance.
• Or people are coming to your site for a purpose. They’ve been handed your business card and want to learn more. Here’s where you’d like to make navigation as easy and consistent as possible, letting people learn what they want to know quickly.

Regardless, the point is to stay up with what people consider professional and make things as simple and user-accessible as possible. Interaction with your site is a good thing, and you want to enable that as much as you can.
